Can’t get out of Windows 10’s S mode? Try this

Windows 10 in S mode is a version of Windows 10 that’s streamlined for security and performance while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from the Microsoft Store and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing.

Basically, it is a mode through which Microsoft streamlines Windows 10’s functionality in order to make it faster and more secure.

The only problem with this feature is that with all the streamlining also comes an entire host of restrictions.

This isn’t something that many users may enjoy, and after switching to it (most likely out of curiosity), many may want to know how they can switch back to normal again.

The problem is that not many users know how to do this.

I brought a new laptop on first week of July 2019, I powered it on when it arrived and checked few things and everything was ok. Yesterday I was trying to install an antivirus and that’s when I found out that It has Windows 10 S installed in it. I am trying to switch out of S Mode following the instructions in website but I am getting a blank screen in the Microsoft Store. Clicking on home in the Store loads all the apps, however launching the Store from the Activation link provides a black screen.

That is precisely why we’ve created this step-by-step guide, to show you exactly how you can switch back to Windows 10 is S mode is not much your style.

How do I disable S mode on Windows 10?

1. Use the dedicated option in the Settings menu

  1. Press Start
  2. Go to Settings (the button shaped like a cogwheel)
  3. Go to Update & Security
  4. Look at the left pane and select Activation
  5. Look under Switch to Windows 10 Home
    • The name will vary based on the version of Windows 10 you are running
  6. Select the Go to Microsoft Store link
    • A new page labeled Switch out of S mode will appear
  7. Select the Get button
  8. Click the Install buttoninstall s mode
  9. Select Yes, let’s go when prompted

By following these steps, you should be able to safely and securely switch back from Windows 10 S mode to the regular Windows 10.

The good thing about these steps is that they work silently in the background and that you don’t have to even reboot your PC for the changes to take place.

Additionally, this will not affect your PC’s ability to switch back to Windows 10 S mode again should you feel like it.
